Why Is Sprite Called Sprite?
Coca-Cola owned the rights to the Sprite trademark since the 1940s long before there was ever a soft drink referred to as Sprite. In the early 1940s, Coca-Cola started running an advertising campaign featuring an elf-like figure referred to as Sprite Boy, who used the names ‘’Coca-Cola’’ and new nickname ‘’Coke’’ interchangeably in advertisements. Well, in 1958-three years to the launch of sprite soft-drink, Sprite Boy campaign was discontinued.
Therefore, the name Sprite originated from the previous Coca-Cola campaign, but it was a focus group that ultimately chose the name Sprite for the soft drink.

7UP was originally named ‘Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda’ and contained lithium citrate a mood-enhancing drug, until its use in soft drinks was banned in 1948.
Today the rights to the brand are held by Keurig Dr Pepper in the United States and by PepsiCo in the rest of the world. In the UK 7UP is bottled and distributed by Britvic on behalf of PepsiCo and is available widely across all major retailers, foodservice, leisure and licensed outlets.
